Participating Student Wins Citizen Of the Year

TVO Citizen Of the Year Award 2009

Grade 3 student, Mark Manderson, took matters into his own hands this winter when he decided he could make a difference for hungry children in Chad, Africa.

The eight year old spear-headed a fund raiser meant to provide life-saving 'plumpy nut' nutrition packets to kids in need.

Fallingbrook students were invited to help stampout hunger by paying $1.00 to paint foot or hand prints for a massive school mural.

Mark also recruited the help of his family and friends to organize a snackbar for Fallingbrook's two holiday concerts. In all, the school community helped him raise a total of $600.00 for the much needed Plumpy Nut packs.

Mark first realized his potential to make a difference back in grade two, during his participation in the 'Who Is Nobody' character building program.

Mark's outstanding efforts were acknowledged by World Vision and TVO Kids at a recent school Hidden Heroes assembly. Many thanks to the students in Ms. Currie's class and the Fallingbrook community for their generous support!
