Queen Elizabeth Public School - Renfrew County District School Board Class of the Week

Amazing Class of the Week!

My class asked me if we could do the Nobody project again because they'd heard of previous classes doing it— Anne Lefebvre, teacher

School of the Week Teacher: Anne Lefebvre

Grade: Grade 6

School: Queen Elizabeth Public School

School Board: Renfrew County District School Board

1. How did you hear about the program?

I heard it about it on the news seven years ago and was inspired to bring it to my class.

2. Why did you decide to participate?

This is my fourth time doing it. This year, it was my class’ initiative. My class asked me if we could do the Nobody project again because they’d heard of previous classes doing it. In the words of one of my students: “We wanted to make a difference”.

3. What is the biggest impact/change in your class?

Student answers: “We’re much more aware of the things that are happening in the world”. “We care about others”. “To make the world a better place”. “We realize how hard other people’s lives are compared to ours.” “We realize how privileged we are”. “We did it to encourage other people to do it too”.

4. What is the biggest impact/change in one of your students?

From students who visited Bonnechere Manor (seniors’ residence/long-term care facility): “We didn’t realize how important it is to visit because the residents don’t get many visitors”. “The residents really appreciated the conversations. It made them feel good”.
From a student who handed out care packages in Cuba, “I didn’t realize how they don’t have the stuff we do that we have access to every day like clean drinking water and electricity”.

5. Example of one student’s project:

Dawson and Kolby made lots of meals and raised money through donations for a family friend battling brain cancer (see picture below).

6. Which whole-class Who Is NOBODY? Project did your class do (i.e. Free The Children or another organization/cause) and why your class chose it:

Collected over $600 by doing chores around our houses to earn the money, then went to our local Walmart to go on a toy shopping spree for needy children for the Salvation Army Angel Tree at Christmas.

I love the Who Is Nobody project because it helps children believe in themselves and in their own personal ability. This empowerment helps them see a bigger picture and feel that their positive actions can make positive changes in the world. They realize that little people can do big things!
