Some Who Is NOBODY? Projects completed by this class: Ottawa Humane Society, donated 3 bags worth of toys to homeless shelter, donated clothes, etc.

Meadowlands Public School received their Who Is NOBODY? kit thanks to a generous donation from a local community member. Who? Rabbi Bulka! Teacher Pam Parks was keen to participate because values education and character education is big at Ottawa Carleton District School Board (OCDSB); creating kids of character is a priority.

During the interview, Gabby, a student at Meadowlands Public School explains the 5 program steps. The first is to decide if you are most interested in helping people, animals or the environment. Gabby chose to support a local lady who feeds stray cats. A pet collar was added to NOBODY to represent her project. Then Gabby exercised both art and literacy by writing a story, drawing a picture and presenting her experience to her class.

Teacher Pam Parks decided to implement Who Is NOBODY? because rather than just talking about character, NOBODY helps students actually go out and make a difference and experience the character traits first hand.

Pam observed that by participating in this program, kids recognize that they have some kind of control over changing the world.

Gabby also shared her perspective. She said that helping others makes you feel good inside. She also learned that even if you’re young you can make a difference.
