Ventura Park Public School - York Region District School Board - Who Is NOBODY?In September, grade eight students at Ventura Park Public School decided to give back to their community. Guided by their teacher, Mrs Herman, pairs of students donated their time, materials or funds to help someone else. They volunteered (at hockey leagues, shovelling driveways, baking, reading), raised funds (for the Cancer Society, for homeless shelters and women’s shelters) and donated money (to the Hospital for Sick Children, the Out of the Cold Program). The range of programs was outstanding.

I loved contributing to a worthy cause, and just because my project is finished, I'm not going to stop raising money— Ventura Park student

“I loved contributing to a worthy cause, and just because my project is finished, I’m not going to stop raising money. This is a worthy cause and the children really loved getting the art supplies,” stated one of the students. As a culminating activity, students attached a description of their work to a ‘Mr Nobody’ doll, thus turning it into Mr Somebody.

Their caring, sense of responsibility and empathy was remarkable. Ventura Park students should be very proud of themselves.
