1. How did you hear about the program?
As part of our IB training, I visited the Leo Baech Day School in Toronto, Ontario. I was introduced to the WHO IS NOBODY project and fell in love. I instantly wanted to bring it to my Yiddish classroom at JPPS-Bialik in Montreal, Quebec. The trick for my program was to make it relevant to 1) teaching Yiddish and 2) meeting the needs of the IB programme.
2. Why did you decide to participate?
Character education is at the core of the JPPS philosophy. We strive to guide our students towards being “mentshlech” (good people) and kind and the NOBODY project seemed to meet these needs perfectly.
3. What is the biggest impact/change in your class?
This project allowed the students to think critically about how they can best make a difference in other people’s lives. It also gave them the ability to think outside the box. Some students donated money for a meaningful cause, while others chose to help their parents. The project taught them not only about themselves but about one another.
4. What is the biggest impact/change in one of your students?
One of my students chose to create awareness about health choices and too much salt. Her grandfather lives in Los Angeles and is very ill in the hospital. She wanted NOBODY to know about kidney disease and heart disease and taught her peers about the importance of not eating too much salt. She created a poster and wrote a letter with NOBODY to her grandfather.

6. Which whole-class Who Is NOBODY? Project did your class do (i.e. Free The Children or another organization/cause) and why your class chose it:
The students decided to collect school supplies from the entire school and donate them to the Share the Warmth Organization in Montreal. This was a project that they decided upon as a class because they realized that many students will have a lot of “gently used” school supplies left over at the end of the year and could donate those to other children
